We are pleased to announce that Derek Adams has joined the firm as Partner in our Litigation Practice in our DC office, focusing his practice on False Claims Act defense, white-collar matters, government investigations, and litigation.


A former trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, Mr. Adams’ practice involves the defense of individuals, companies, and organizations in civil, criminal, and regulatory matters related to financial transactions, health care, small business administration loans, government procurement, research and education. While at the Department of Justice, Mr. Adams led matters under the False Claims Act and the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989, resulting in more than $5 billion in recoveries for taxpayers.

Outside of his time at the Department of Justice, Mr. Adams has broad experience defending clients facing allegations of financial and loan fraud, health care fraud, securities fraud, and others type of fraud throughout the country. He regularly represents clients facing Department of Justice investigations and actions. Most recently, he has counseled businesses and nonprofits to help them reduce risk of a Small Business Administration or Department of Justice investigation related to loans obtained under the Paycheck Protection Program.

Mr. Adams received his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School and began his career as a litigator at Goodwin Procter LLP. He was recently selected to Super Lawyers Rising Stars 2020, Washington D.C.
