California’s oldest independent bookstore chain, Books Inc., received bankruptcy court approval for a sale to Barnes & Noble. The deal includes the leases for nine Bay Area stores, including two at San Francisco International Airport, and will allow the Books Inc. name to continue under new ownership.
The PLG team led by Gregory Giammittorio and Pamela Egan, along with Jodi Arganbright, Lisa Poole, and Lisa Zolidis, represented Barnes & Noble Booksellers Inc. in the transaction, which was approved by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge William J. Lafferty as the “highest and best offer.” The sale ensures continuity for a historic literary brand that has been part of California’s retail landscape since 1851.
