Viresh R. Patel is a counsel in our patent group with extensive experience in patent law.  His practice includes drafting and prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications in the electrical, mechanical, medical device, computer, software, and business method arts.  Mr. Patel also has experience with appeals, reexamination proceedings, and post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Mr. Patel began his career as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined patents related to various aspects of data systems including data storage, retrieval, and security.  His over three years of experience as a patent examiner helps Mr. Patel expedite prosecution and ultimately secure favorable patent rights for his clients.

Mr. Patel has gained experience at Am Law and boutique law firms while building his expertise in patent law.  Throughout his career, Mr. Patel has represented clients of varying sizes in both budding and established technologies.  He particularly relishes the opportunity to tap into this broad experience to tailor strategy positions that further the individual goals of each client.

A graduate of the George Washington University Law School, Viresh was a staff member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal as a law student.  He earned his bachelor of science in computer science from the University of Florida.  During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Patel worked as a software engineering intern at Lockheed Martin, where he developed software executables for tank squadron training simulators.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS 

  • Drafted and prosecuted domestic and foreign patent applications for clients ranging from startups to Fortune 100 companies in the software, electrical, mechanical, medical device, and business method arts.
  • Participated in drafting petitions for covered business method review that successfully invalidated a patent asserted in litigation.
  • Examined patent applications for eligibility and patentability in a software art unit at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
