Partner Gabriela Coman counsels clients in the strategic development of complex patent assets in the areas of biotechnology, chemicals, and semiconductors.  She assists clients with prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, and intellectual property valuation and opinions on patentability, validity, and infringement issues.  Ms. Coman manages patent portfolios across a variety of enterprises including biomedical devices, surgical instruments and procedures, nanotechnology, chemical synthesis and purification, polymer chemistry, catalytic conversion, semiconductors, and pharmaceutical compositions and treatments.

Ms. Coman’s clients include universities and research institutions, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, custom catalyst developers and national providers of health care services, as well as small corporations and independent inventors.

Representative Experience

  • Drafted and prosecuted 500+ patent applications in the biological sciences, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor industries
  • Manages prosecution docket for Fortune 500 medical device company
  • Performs IP due diligence for corporate transactions, including acting as primary outside intellectual property due diligence counsel for Fortune 500 company investing in multi-million dollar IP asset deals
  • Litigates patent disputes before U.S. District Courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission
  • Manages all aspects of patent and trademark infringement litigation including motion practice, discovery and depositions for client, managing teams of attorneys and paralegals, developing and implementing litigation strategy, preparing and arguing substantive motions (written and oral), drafting appeal briefs filed in the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit
