PLG is pleased to welcome back Reese Alutto-Schmidt as a Partner in the firm’s Investigations & White Collar Defense and Employment & Labor practice groups in Washington, D.C. Reese has broad experience representing clients in connection with government and internal investigations, employee misconduct investigations, and responses to government subpoenas.

With a distinguished background that includes service in government and as in-house counsel, Reese brings extensive experience advising clients on managing risks tied to allegations of fraud, misconduct, government investigations, and enforcement actions. Her impressive track record includes leading investigations into matters such as bank and wire fraud, money laundering, false claims, securities violations, government procurement fraud, and whistleblower retaliation. She has also handled cases involving identity theft, security clearance reporting, and violations of corporate policies — including expense and corporate card fraud, IT asset misuse, improper gifts, intellectual property misappropriation, and time mischarging. Reese’s addition to the firm enhances PLG’s ability to guide clients through high-stakes regulatory and internal investigations.

Prior to returning to PLG, Reese served as Senior Investigative Counsel for the Major Case Unit in the Office of the Inspector General and as Investigative Counsel for the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Homeland Security. She began her career as an associate with Skadden Arps and served as clerk in Maryland to Judge Roger W. Titus, Judge Michael P. Whalen, and Judge Mary Ellen Barbera. Reese received her J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from American University, Washington College of Law and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Virginia Wesleyan College.
