With more than 35 years of experience in real estate and mortgage law, Marc J. Sternbaum is Counsel in the firm’s real estate practice.  As counsel for investors, developers and lenders in commercial real estate transactions, he is well-versed in the sale and acquisition of commercial properties and leasing of offices, warehouses, and shopping centers.  Mr. Sternbaum has negotiated and closed conventional and complex commercial mortgage loan transactions and has handled restructuring and assumption transactions for mortgage loans in CMBS pools.  He is an experienced title examiner and authorized attorney for commercial underwriters.  His extensive experience extends to general commercial law, including unsecured lending, general business transactions, contracts, and corporate governance.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Negotiated and documented loan forbearances, modifications, restructurings and deeds in lieu of foreclosure on loans totaling over $1 billion for CMBS special servicer
  • Represented a lender in the closing of a multi-tier mezzanine and senior mortgage loan for land acquisition and development totaling more than $96 million
  • Represented a CMBS special servicer in approval and documentation of modification, recapitalization and assumption of $210,000,000 mortgage loan secured by multi-building subsidized housing project
  • Represented a Canadian developer for over 13 years in its acquisition, development and sale of a 170-acre, high-density residential and commercial parcel in Miami-Dade County
  • Represented New York based real estate joint venture for over 5 years in its disposition of a portfolio of industrial, office and mixed-use land in planned developments in Weston and Boca Raton, Florida
