Ms. Satterthwaite is known for both contentious and noncontentious trademark counseling, prosecution and portfolio management, licensing, and enforcement/litigation. She is particularly renowned for her creative work in relation to trademarks in cyberspace. Providing global trademark counseling and enforcement to key U.S. brands, and U.S. trademark counsel to leading global brands, Ms. Satterthwaite also has a strong client base in Europe where she has held leadership positions and speaking engagements for Marques, the European Trademark Owners’ Association. Ms. Satterthwaite is also a seasoned trademark litigator who has won as lead counsel on many trademark, domain name, copyright and false advertising lawsuits in federal courts in several states and in foreign countries.
The 2017 edition of the Managing Intellectual Property – IP STARS The Top 250 Women in IP 2017 included PLG’s Janet Satterthwaite. This list recognizes women IP lawyers around the world in private practice who have performed exceptionally for their clients and firms in the past year. Managing Intellectual Property, based in London, is the leading periodical on law and developments in global intellectual property. Each year it conducts rigorous and impartial research to find its list of list of leading IP practitioners. Inclusion on the list is based on merit and recommendation by peers and clients.
Since 2013, MIP has conducted countless interviews to select the top 1000 IP stars and top 250 Women IP stars in the United States. Ms. Satterthwaite has been named in every one of these and for the second year in a row is named as a Top 250 Women Global IP star.
Ms. Satterthwaite has received many prestigious awards and rankings in which she has been praised as “innovative” and as a “fierce defender of the rights of her clients.” Most recently, she was recognized once again in the 2017 editions of World Trademark Review 1000 for Prosecution and Strategy as well as for Enforcement, and in CHAMBERS USA 2017 for Trademarks .
